HELP JAMIE FIGHT BRAIN CANCER

About Jamie and her brain cancer diagnosis.

In February 2021, just weeks after giving birth to her fourth child, Jamie Phelan (then only 31 years old), was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme, a rare and extremely aggressive brain tumour. Based on the statistics, life expectancy for this form of cancer is approximately 12 to 18 months from diagnosis. Only 25% of patients are lucky enough to survive more than one year, while only 5% will survive more than five years.

Since November 2021, Jamie has been receiving groundbreaking specialist immunotherapy and vaccine treatments in Cologne, Germany that are designed to treat her specific type of cancer. This treatment has so far cost in excess of €250,000. It consistently shows very promising results and has so far stabilised Jamie’s tumour, but Jamie and her family simply cannot afford for her to continue with this vital, lifesaving treatment without significant fundraising and financial help.

More about Jamie.

Jamie is 33 years old. She is from Waterford, and living here with her husband Danny Windsor, and their four children; Liam (9), Tadgh (7), Tara (4) and Fiadh (2). Until February 2021, Jamie was a fit and healthy woman; a doting mother, juggling a demanding job and a busy household. Just weeks after bringing her new baby Fiadh home from hospital, Jamie experienced concerning symptoms and went to hospital in Waterford, where she was assessed, given a brain scan, and immediately referred to Cork University Hospital for surgery to relieve pressure on her brain. Immediately after her surgery, Jamie experienced confusion and loss of speech and regardless of whatever diagnosis lay ahead, she was looking at a long and difficult recovery.

Thereafter came the devastating news that Jamie has a tumour that was identified as Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer that is almost always terminal. She began radiation therapy followed by ongoing chemotherapy but unfortunately, these standard-of-care treatments did not deliver the desired results, so it is essential that Jamie continues to receive these specialist immunotherapy and vaccine treatments in Germany.

Jamie is a treasured wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and so much more. She means so much to so many. She is kind, funny, self-assured, so laid back she is horizontal, and she is always up for a laugh. Since being dealt this cruel fate, Jamie has shown her strength, resilience and selflessness. She never complains about her situation and she continues to navigate the invisible challenges of her illness - such as the emotional toll, the psychological impact of her illness and the worry about her children’s future - with grace.

To put it simply, we are in awe of her.

Please help us help Jamie!

We implore you to try put yourself in Jamie's shoes for a moment. Please support our fundraising initiatives so we can Help Jamie Fight Brain Cancer! Please donate whatever you can and help us spread the word. Jamie deserves every opportunity to gain time to spend with her family, while her husband Danny and their four young children deserve every extra minute they can get with their wonderful wife and mother.

Please note that Jamie continuing to receive this treatment depends on our ability to raise enough money to cover the ongoing costs. In an event where more is raised than is ultimately needed for treatment, the monies donated will go towards ensuring that in the future, Jamie's four children’s care and education will not be compromised by the significant expenses she and her family are incurring now while caring for Jamie.
